Assurance Electrical Services suggests electrical upgrades to consider when remodeling your Prescott home

Assurance Electrical Services performs electrical upgrades to help you complete the remodeling project at your Prescott home or business.
Are you doing some remodeling? Whether your electrical wiring is really old or was installed only a few years back, it can be ready for some upgrades. Assurance Electrical Services discusses electrical upgrades to consider when remodeling your Prescott home.

Most of your electrical system is hidden behind the walls. Electrical wiring can be easy to overlook when planning a remodel. Consider home electrical wiring upgrades just as important as all the other items on your renovation agenda. In fact, it is more important than most of the other items on the list because of safety. A renovation that includes opening walls and ceilings for other reasons gives you have the perfect opportunity to make some electrical upgrades.  Plan for both your current (no pun intended) needs and what you might require in the future as well.

One of the biggest complaints people have about their homes is that they have too few outlets. They find themselves using multiple power strips and extension cords for everyday tasks. A remodeling project is the perfect time to fix that! Families have different needs for extra outlets, but here are some things to consider:

  • Do you use a lot of new gadgets or appliances in your kitchen?
  • Do you have a home office with some computers and printers?
  • Do you have enough outlets in your outdoor spaces?
  • Do you have older kids with televisions, computers and video games in their rooms?
Assurance Electrical Services can help you with upgrades when you remodel your Prescott home or business. We can also design home lighting that will give your remodel the perfect touch. Assurance Electrical Services offers lighting suggestions for your Prescott home

Assurance Electrical Services can add lighting fixtures that will enhance the design and value of your Prescott home.Lighting in a room can have a profound effect on the room’s aesthetics. Assurance Electrical Services offers some considerations for lighting your Prescott home.

Some people think of lighting only in terms of being an essential function for living. However, the right lighting in place can completely transform how a single room or entire home looks and feels. Lighting is a very important component of interior design. Whether you are redecorating a single room or giving your entire home a makeover, it is important that you give plenty of thought to lighting.

Here are some things lighting can do:

Affect the mood of a room
People often feel happier and more positive on bright, sunny days. Likewise, lighting has been proven to have a profound effect on our moods. Many scientists believe lighting affects the changes in our emotions through the nervous and endocrine systems. The type of lighting that surrounds us can cause us to feel happy or sad. Changes in lighting can even lead to changes in behavior, mood swings and other emotional responses.

Enhance interior design
Creative lighting will be noticed by guests who enter a well-designed interior of a home. Lighting can be used to illuminate paintings and art objects, as well as provide overall accents and ambience.

Make a small room feel larger
Most homeowners would like to decorate a small room in a way that makes it feel open and even larger than it is. One easy way to make your room feel as open and large as possible is to make some creative changes to your lighting. A room seems larger when people’s gaze is drawn upwards, as the eye will tend to move vertically, rather than horizontally. Try positioning light fixtures higher up on your walls or add some hanging lights from your ceiling. Recessed lighting works well, too.

Assurance Electrical Services hopes these lighting suggestions will inspire you. Are you considering some lighting changes in your Prescott home? Assurance Electrical Services can help you design home lighting that will suit your style. Assurance Electrical Services outlines the benefit of a whole house fan for your Prescott home

Assurance Electrical Services recommends a QuietCool whole house fan to add comfort to your Prescott home.
Whatever the temperature is, inside or outside, you'll always want plenty of clean, fresh air circulating through the house. Assurance Electrical Services recommends the QuietCool whole house fan for your Prescott home.

Bring the cool air inside...
When the ambient air temperature outside is cooler than the inside of your home, the QuietCool whole house fan system will operate effectively and efficiently. During the summer months, this typically happens from late afternoon to early evening, and right on through the night.

Fresh air...

A gentle air current will flow throughout your home to each QuietCool fan being used. This begins your home's cooling process. When the QuietCool fan is turned on and one or two windows are opened, the cool breeze begins. The cooler outside air quickly begins to create a refreshing light breeze inside your home. You will instantly feel as much as 10 degrees cooler and sometimes more.

Maximize your comfort...
To enjoy the most comfort and maximum efficiency from a QuietCool whole house fan, we recommend you start by cooling your home's most lived-in areas. If you spend, for example, most of the early evening in the kitchen or family room area, focus your cooling on those rooms. Later, as the outside temperature becomes even cooler, you can open windows in other rooms. At bedtime, close all the windows except for those in the occupied bedrooms for a perfect, comfortable night’s sleep.

Are you considering a whole house fan for your Prescott home? Assurance Electrical Services can install a QuietCool Whole House Fan to increase your family's comfort. For more information, or to schedule an in-home consultation call us today at 928-713-2177 or visit us at http://www.myprescottelectrician.com.

Assurance Electrical Services discusses HID vs. LED parking lot lights at your Prescott business

Assurance Electrical Services can install LED parking lot lights at your Prescott business to improve safety and reduce energy costs
In the past, high-intensity discharge (HID) fixtures have been the institution for lighting outside parking areas. More recently, LED have emerged and have become highly developed and efficient for parking lot illumination. LED stands for "light emitting diode." A diode is a component with two terminals which conduct electricity only in one direction. The diode emits a bright light around the small bulb. Assurance Electrical Services compares HID vs. LED parking lot lights at your Prescott business.

Product costs
  • LED fixtures require a greater initial investment than HID Lighting. The question then becomes: Are there any financial benefits to going with LED lighting?

Life span
  • LED fixtures can typically last 50,000 hours or more. This is approximately three times longer than HID bulbs.
  • While LED fixtures require a greater initial investment, they make up the cost difference in lifespan.

Maintenance costs
  • The only maintenance LED fixtures require is periodic cleaning.
  • HID fixtures require periodic maintenance since they contain multiple components that need regular inspection and replacement.

Energy costs
  • LED fixtures consume up to 80 percent less power than HID fixtures.
  • Although LED fixtures require a greater initial investment, they more than compensate for this because of the difference in energy savings.
  • LED parking lot lights save a huge amount of money in monthly electric costs.
  • The energy consumption of LED parking lot illumination is less than half of what HID fixtures consume.

Assurance Electrical Services hopes this comparison of HID vs. LED parking lot lighting at your Prescott business gives you some food for thought. Regardless of the type of lighting you choose, it is important that you have your lighting considerations evaluated by a licensed and experienced professional. If the lighting fixtures are not properly installed in your parking lot, safety becomes an issue. If you have questions about lighting upgrades or professional lighting installation for your business or your home, contact Assurance Electrical Services. We provide the quality work you need and the friendly service you want. For information, call 928-713-2177 or visit us online http://www.myprescottelectrician.com.

Assurance Electrical Services comments on whole house surge protectors for your Prescott home

Assurance Electrical Services can install a whole house surge protector at your Prescott home to keep your wiring and electronics safe.
Are you wondering whether a whole house surge protector is something you need for your home in Prescott? Assurance Electrical Services shares some valuable information to help you decide.

If you ask electricians whether or not a whole house surge protector works, you may get conflicting answers. The reason? A whole house surge protector works on high-voltage surges, but doesn’t stop all surges.

How does it work?
Whole house surge protectors are designed for a specific VPR, or Voltage Protection Rating. There is a maximum amount of voltage that the surge protector will allow, and any voltage higher than the VPR will be “bounced”. Whole home surge protectors help protect in cases of lightning strikes and downed power lines, or even high energy appliances that cycle on and off.

Unfortunately lower voltage surges are allowed through, and some of those voltages may be harmful to your electronics. In order to fully protect your home’s wiring and electrical devices, you should consider a point-of-use surge protector.

Point-of-use
A point-of-use surge protector will absorb excess voltage before it can reach your electronic devices. It plugs directly into the electrical outlet, and your appliance or device is plugged into the surge protector. But point-of-use surge protectors are limited in that they aren’t designed to handle the higher voltages.

What is the answer?
Your best protection would be to have both a whole house surge protector and point-of-use protectors wherever your sensitive electronics are located. Surge protector strips are useful to protect computers, stereos, televisions, and any other sensitive electronics.

Assurance Electrical Services wants to make sure your sensitive electronics, and your home, are protected from surges and other electrical mishaps. For questions about a whole house surge protector for your Prescott home, or any other electrical needs for home or business, call Assurance Electrical Services at 928-713-2177. Assurance Electrical Services talks about GFI outlets and why you need them in your Prescott home

Assurance Electrical Services can install GFCI outlets in your Prescott home to keep your electrical system working safely.
Are you thinking about replacing your outlets? Before you do, take a few moments to brush up on updated building codes to ensure you are installing the safest outlets. When you are at the hardware store selecting outlets that match your design aesthetic, you may not realize there is a difference between the outlets. After all, they may all look the same. However, certain parts of your house require particular outlets to help prevent electrical damage and fires in your home. Assurance Electrical Services talks about GFI outlets and why you need them in your Prescott home.

What Is a GFI Outlet?
A GFI or GFCI (Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter) outlet prevents electrical shock from faults in our electrical devices such as a faulty phone charging cable or hair-dryer. If the outlet detects a difference in current, it rapidly switches off protecting both you and the equipment from significant harm or damage.

Where Should They Be Installed?
The International Electric Code dictates areas of your home where GFCI must be installed. These areas include any space where there may be a higher concentration of moisture such as the bathroom, kitchen, or outdoors. Your local regulations may specify additional areas that should have a GFCI installed.

Safety is the highest priority when replacing outlets or installing anything that connects directly to the electrical system in your home. Before you begin, ensure that the appropriate breakers have been shut off. There are tools available that can determine if your wiring is live. Because of the danger involved in working with electricity, it is best to have a licensed and trained professional install and repair electrical devices and components in your home. If you are not sure what type of outlets you require or if you need outlets installed in your Prescott home, contact Assurance Electrical Services at 928-713-2177 or visit http://www.myprescottelectrician.com.

Assurance Electrical Services: Tips on safe use of extension cords at your Prescott home

Assurance Electrical Services can troubleshoot electrical issues at your Prescott home to keep your family safe.
The easiest solution to the problem of not having an outlet nearby is an extension cord. But even when you choose the proper cord, it is always just a temporary solution. Extension cords used over long periods of time are susceptible to damage and deterioration that can lead to electrocution or fire. Assurance Electrical Services has some advice about using extension cords to help ensure electrical safety in your Prescott home.

  • Always use the appropriate cord. Look for indoor/outdoor use as well as the wattage rating to make sure you don’t overload it.
  • Do not run cords through snow, water or through walls or conduit.
  • Do not chain cords together; plug each one into an outlet.
  • Do not attach more than one appliance to an extension cord.
  • Never use a cord that has visible damage or that feels hot to the touch.
  • Never alter a cord or bypass the security measures. Do not cut off the ground prong to make it fit or force a polarized plug into a non-polarized outlet. (Polarized plugs have one prong that is bigger than the other).
  • Only use cords approved by Underwriters Laboratories. These are independent testing laboratories than ensure the product is safe for use.

If you have a lot of extension cords in your home or business, it’s an indicator that you have too few outlets to address your needs. Choose the safest option and call Assurance Electrical Services. We can install outlets wherever you need them and help you power everything you need in your Prescott home in a safe way. Call to schedule an appointment at 928-713-2177. Assurance Electrical Services talks about light switches for your Prescott home

Assurance Electrical Services can upgrade electrical fixtures and improve the lighting at your Prescott home.
Is it time to change out your light switches? Possibly the most ubiquitous electrical device in homes today is the wall switch. We use them to control the flow of electricity to other devices throughout the house; this includes turning on lights, fans, outlets, garbage disposals, etc. Switches play a vital role in keeping a home functional, but very few homeowners know that not all switches are created equal. Assurance Electrical Services wants to make sure that Prescott homeowners are educated before changing their light switches.

Single-Pole
The single-pole switch controls lights and other devices from a single location. Its simple design is useful for a majority of situations. The single-pole has screw-terminals. One connector is used for the incoming power, and the other connector is used for outgoing power.

Double-Pole
The double-pole is typically used for commercial applications. This switch has four “hot” connectors for power and one neutral connector. The double-pole can handle significantly higher voltages and amperage, and it usually controls a 240-volt circuit.

Three-Way
If you have two switches in your home that control the same light, this is typically accomplished with the help of a three-way switch. These switches have three screw-terminals.

Four-Way
Four-way switches are probably the least common. They are used to connect three-way switches when you need to control the lights from more than two locations. Like the double-pole switches, they have four connectors plus a ground.

Depending on how your home is wired, changing light switches can be simple. However, working with your home’s electrical system is very dangerous, so proper safety precautions must be taken before beginning a project. It is highly recommended that you hire a licensed and trained professional for any electrical work for your Prescott home. If you are looking for a professional electrician that will get your light switches changed quickly and properly, contact Assurance Electrical Services at 928-713-2177 or visit http://www.myprescottelectrician.com.

Assurance Electrical Services discusses the pros and cons of LED lighting for your Prescott home

Assurance Electrical Services can troubleshoot and upgrade the electrical system at your Prescott home or business.
In recent times there has been a big emphasis placed on the environment, so it follows that homeowners are turning to the “greenest” products they can find. LED lighting, with its energy efficiency and environmental friendliness, are making it the lighting of choice. Assurance Electrical Services shares the pros and cons of LED lighting for your Prescott home.

When it comes to any product, there are both pros and cons. LED is no exception.

Here are some of the advantages to using LED lighting:

Energy efficiency. An LED lamp offers between 80-90% energy efficiency in contrast to a traditional incandescent light bulb. In other words, when the LED lamp is turned on, about 80% of the energy used to illuminate actually goes into creating the light, while the other 20% is given off as heat. This results in a lot of savings, both in terms of the energy used and money being spent on electricity. As a bonus, the LED lamp emits much less heat making it a safer bulb as it's cool to the touch.
Less electricity to start up. A standard 60-watt incandescent light bulb will use about 525 kWh of electricity per year. However, a comparable LED lamp will only need to use about 65 kWh of electricity.
Long lifespan. A standard incandescent light bulb will last anywhere from 750 to 2,000 hours. A fluorescent lamp will provide about 20,000 hours of light. However, some LED lamps can last for as long as 100,000 hours!

Here are some of the disadvantages to using LED lighting:

Price. Even though over recent years the price point for LED lamps has continued to drop, it is still a bit pricier than incandescent and fluorescent lighting. This factor could potentially make the installation of LED lighting more costly than the budgets some people can bear.
Temperature. LED lighting has also been found to be sensitive in terms of temperature. How well an LED functions can be directly related to the temperature in which it is located. If an LED lamp is used in a warm environment, it may cause the lamp to overdrive and fail. Because of this, LEDs generally require a heat sink to help keep them cool and operating properly.
Color limitations. LED lamps generally create white light using diodes of different colors that when all are illuminated together makes white light. In the past, this has sometimes led to the color emitted by an LED lamp to be a bit too blueish or cool. Modern technology has corrected a lot of this. But sometimes the LEDs themselves can begin to diminish in terms of the color quality of the light produced.

Is LED lighting best for you? Weigh the pros against the cons and decide. Assurance Electrical Services hopes this discussion of LED lighting for your Prescott home is helpful to you. If you need any kind of electrical work or consultation, call Assurance Electrical Services at 928-713-2177 or visit us online at http://www.myprescottelectrician.com.

Assurance Electrical Services can expertly upgrade the accent or task lighting in your Prescott home.
There are many reasons to upgrade the lighting in your home. You may be getting ready to sell or remodel your home, or your home may not be bright enough. Your reason for upgrading will help determine the type of lighting you should use. Assurance Electrical Services shares ideas for lighting upgrades for your Prescott home.

General Lighting
General lighting is designed to provide the right amount of light for you to move around your house. This light helps make every part of your home accessible. The only areas in which you may not find general lighting is an attic or a garage. Recessed lights and overhead lights are typically used for your general lighting needs.

Task Lighting
There are parts of your home that require more light than others. Your kitchen countertops, for example, require additional lighting for preparing food. The desk in a home office would require extra lighting. You can think of task lighting as the lighting you need to get work done (or read a book).

Accent Lighting
If you want to make a part of your home stand out, accent lighting is the way to go. This type of light helps draw attention to specific elements in your home. These elements may include a portrait, an accent wall, or a sculpture. If you want to sell your home or give your home a fresh new feel, accent lighting will give you the aesthetic you want.

Regardless of the type of lighting you choose, it is vital that you follow proper safety practices. Assurance Electrical Services asks: Does your Prescott home show signs of hazardous electrical outlets?

Assurance Electrical Services can help keep your Prescott home safe and free from electrical hazards.
Electrical fires are a threat to life and property. Assurance Electrical Services asks that you check to see if your Prescott home shows signs of hazardous electrical outlets.

The sad fact is, home electrical fires account for 51,000 fires per year and more than 500 deaths according to the Electrical Safety Foundation International. About 5,300 of those fires are caused by electrical receptacles. The good news is, most of these fires could be easily prevented by recognizing the warning signs of a faulty outlet in your home and getting routine maintenance.

Here are some warning signs of potential outlet hazards:
  • An outlet or power strip is overloaded. Outlets may have multiple plug options, but that does not mean they are capable of handling huge loads of power. Power strips can add to the number of items a single outlet can handle, but the amount of power may exceed their capacity. Do not plug multiple high-voltage items into a single outlet or power strip. You will likely overload the circuit.
  • An outlet is next to the shower or bathtub. An outlet should always be a safe distance from a water source. There should be a minimum of 3 feet between outlets and your bathtub and shower. GFCI receptacles improve the situation, but it is always best to contact a qualified electrician and have the outlet moved. The cost of removal of an outlet and installation of a safer alternative is much less than the cost that will result from a house fire.
  • Unprotected outlets. For some reason, young children are fascinated by electrical outlets. Playing with an outlet can cause a child to be shocked or burned, and if a child inserts a metal object into that outlet, the result could be severe electrical shock or a fire. Child safety wall plates are the best solution. If you do not want to replace the outlets in your home, at the very least install plastic outlet covers.

Assurance Electrical Services wants you to be sure your Prescott home does not show signs of hazardous electrical outlets. If you need help reviewing your home’s electrical system, or for any other electrical needs, call Assurance Electrical Services at 928-713-2177. Learn more at http://www.myprescottelectrician.com.

Assurance Electrical Services discusses common electrical upgrades for your Prescott home

Assurance Electrical Services can help your Prescott home electrical upgrade stay safely within code.
Summer is upon us, and that means it is time for renovation projects. Whether you are remodeling your bathroom or are adding a room to your home, your project may require you to upgrade your electrical wiring and main circuit breaker. Upgrading your electrical system is no small task. During the planning stage of your renovation, there are a few electrical upgrades to consider and include in your plan. Assurance Electrical Services wants to make sure your Prescott home receives the electrical upgrades it needs.

Why Upgrade?
As technology progresses, so do the power requirements for your home. We have more electrical devices in our homes than ever before, and many older homes were not built to handle the power load. Your decision to upgrade your electrical system may be due to breakers that are tripped on a regular basis.

What Should I Upgrade?
Here are three of the most common electrical upgrades for your home:
  • Wiring
  • Circuit Breaker
  • Electrical Service

New Wiring
Homes that are several decades old may still have knob and tube wiring. While this is not inherently bad, it does limit the amount of power available to you. New wiring will allow you to run the microwave and the blender at the same time without blowing a fuse or tripping a breaker.

Circuit Breaker
Over the years, your home’s electrical system may have been updated several times. While this is a good thing, it can also mean you do not have enough available circuits to complete your current project. If you are simply out of slots, you may be able to add a sub-panel. However, if your home has 60-amp service, you will likely need to upgrade your electrical service and your electrical panel to accommodate the increased draw on your system.

Electrical Service
When it comes to your home’s systems, it is usually a bad idea to upgrade one part without upgrading another. This is especially true of your electrical service. You may have new wiring and a new circuit breaker, but if you have 60-amp service, it is likely you will constantly overdraw your system.

Before taking the leap to upgrade your electrical system, consult with a licensed electrician to learn what upgrades your Prescott home may need. Most importantly, do not attempt to upgrade your electrical system yourself. Improper installation or mismatched power requirements can pose a significant danger to your home and your family. If not done with the proper permits, it could hurt your home’s resale value or void your homeowners insurance in the event of a fire. If need help navigating your home’s electrical upgrade, call Assurance Electrical Services at  928-713-2177 or visit us online at http://www.myprescottelectrician.com.

Assurance Electrical Services talks about the dangers of overlamping in your Prescott home

Assurance Electrical Services talks about the dangers of overlamping in your Prescott home
What is overlamping? Overlamping is when you install a light bulb with higher wattage than what is recommended for the light fixture. We have all been here before, a light bulb burns out, so we go to the closet and grab the closest available light bulb. Other times, we only purchase 100-watt bulbs, so we can see clearly in our home. But we make these decisions with little or no thought for the wattage of the light fixture. Electrical requirements for home appliances and devices can be complicated and challenging to follow, so Assurance Electrical Services wants to educate Prescott homeowners on the dangers of overlamping in terms everyone can understand.

The Dangers of Overlamping
So you put a brighter bulb in your lamp, what is the worst that could happen? The insulation on light fixtures is created with temperature limits. If your light bulb is 100-watts and your lamp is rated for 60-watts, the additional heat from the hotter bulb can overheat and melt the socket and wiring insulation. This in turn can create an electrical arc which is responsible for starting house fires. At the very least, you risk damaging your light fixture beyond repair.

How to Prevent It
Check your light fixtures to ensure they are at or below the rated wattage. The wattage recommendation is typically located on the fixture’s wire jacket. You should also see the letters “NMB” or “NM”. “NMB” means the fixture can withstand temperatures up to 194 degrees which is the highest possible rating. Finding the wattage rating on older fixtures may be more difficult than checking the wire jacket.

Overlamping poses a severe risk for your home and family, and it should be dealt with quickly. If you have questions about overlamping or would like to have the fixtures in your Prescott home checked by a professional, call Assurance Electrical Services at 928-713-2177. Assurance Electrical Services examines types of outlets for electrical upgrades at your Prescott home

Assurance Electrical Services can upgrade the outlets at your Prescott home to make sure you are up to code.
If you have just moved into a new home, want to update your current home, or are getting ready to sell your home, you have probably considered updating the electrical outlets. This is a simple and affordable method of giving your home a modern aesthetic. Though it is a small change, this small detail gives your home a fresh look and feel. Assurance Electrical Services examines various types of outlets to upgrade your Prescott home.

GFCI
Most homeowners do not keep up-to-date on building code. You may be aware of GFCI outlets (ground fault circuit interrupter), but did you know they are a requirement in kitchens and bathrooms? The GFCI shuts off power to an outlet if there is a short circuit or ground fault. For example, if you were using an appliance in your kitchen and water spilled on the floor over your feet, a short circuit could allow electricity to pass through you to the floor. The GFCI outlet shuts off power before this can happen thereby protecting you from electrocution.

20 Amp Outlet
There are many appliances that may require additional power. Refrigerators, microwave ovens, and clothes dryers are all examples of power-hogging appliances. Appliances such as these should use an outlet that supplies 20 amps. These outlets provide the necessary power for the appliance without blowing a fuse. One way to recognize a 20 amp fuse is by the notch on the left outlet prong.

Switched Outlets
If you do not want constant power to an outlet, a switched outlet may be the right choice for you. The switched outlet includes a switch and an outlet in the same unit. This allows you to manually turn the power off whenever you may need.

USB and Smart Outlets

Technology is rapidly changing and electrical outlets are being updated to meet the demands of modern homes. USB outlets typically include two USB ports on an outlet between the top and bottom prongs. This gives you the ability to plug in your mobile device or tablet without needing an adaptor.

Another new advancement in outlet technology is the Smart outlet. This outlet gives you the ability to control the power to your outlet from your phone via a wifi connection. A pretty handy feature when you’re away from home.

Regardless of the outlet you choose, it is important to have your electrical system inspected by a licensed professional. Different outlets may have different requirements that need to be met. If you are considering installing new outlets in your Prescott home, call Assurance Electrical Services at  928-713-2177 or visit us online at http://www.myprescottelectrician.com.

Assurance Electrical Services talks about electrical hookup for an RV at your Prescott home

Assurance Electrical Services can prepare your Prescott home with the electrical service needed for your RV.
Many Prescott residents own an RV. While some have chosen to rent storage space for their RV, many homeowners park their RV at their home. This offers many benefits over traditional storage. Even if you park your RV elsewhere, you still bring your RV to your home before and after your trip, and may need to plug in to get things ready or clean up. It is important to be prepared before bringing your new “home away from home” to your “I like where I live” home. One of the most important preparations is having the right electrical hookups. Assurance Electrical Services wants you to know what it takes to get your new RV hooked up to your home power.

Dedicated Breaker
You may be tempted to use an extension cord and plug into the nearest outlet of your home. This can create many issues both for your home and your RV. The first step is to give your RV a dedicated outlet. A dedicated outlet will prevent you from overloading your home’s electrical system. Without a dedicated line, you may blow breakers in your home’s electrical panel or damage appliances that share a breaker with the RV. With the proper power requirements, you can simultaneously operate multiple appliances inside your RV. This is especially helpful right before setting off on a big trip, so you can make certain everything is in working order.

Know Your Amperage
The flip side to the electrical equation is the safety of your new RV. Your RV will have a 30 amp or 50 amp electrical system. This can be determined by checking your owners manual or by looking at the prongs on the power cord. A 3-prong connector means your RV requires 30 amp while a 4-prong means it is 50 amp. Attempting to draw too much or too little power from your home may result in blown fuses, damaged appliances, and heartache from damaging your new RV.

Having the proper electrical hookup is essential for plugging in your RV at your Prescott home. Assurance Electrical Services can send a licensed and trained electrician to get your home ready in no time. We will also let you know if your main breaker cannot handle the additional power load. If you have questions about running a dedicated breaker for your RV, or for any other electrical needs at your home or business, call us at 928-713-2177 or visit http://www.myprescottelectrician.com.

The nice thing about electric vehicles is that you can “refuel” them at home. There are three levels of charging stations, each one charging faster than the next.

Level 1
  • Uses standard 120v outlet
  • ~36 hours to fully charge an electric vehicle

Level 2
  • Uses a 240v outlet (like the one used for an electric clothes dryer)
  • ~6.5 hours to fully charge an electric vehicle

Level 3
  • Uses 480v 3-phase AC outlet (industrial-sized power supply not normally in homes)
  • ~1 hour to fully charge the battery.

Upgrading from Level 1 to Level 2
Obviously, it is well worth it to upgrade to a level 2 charger. This would enable you to charge your vehicle overnight so it is ready for the next day. The problem is that most homes do not have a 240v outlet located in the garage or wherever you plan on parking your vehicle. Unless you only plan on driving your new electric vehicle every three days, you’re going to need an upgrade to your electrical system.

Hire a licensed electrician to install your electric vehicle charging station
Installation of a 240v outlet requires a direct line to your electrical panel and possibly even an upgrade to the panel itself. You should always hire a qualified professional electrician when dealing with anything electrical.

Assurance Electrical Services discusses preventing power surges in your Prescott home

Assurance Electrical Services can help protect you from power surges in your Prescott home.
Defend your house appliances, electronics, and personal devices from serious harm. Technology has outpaced conventional home wiring, so every charging phone, computer, and TV puts a strain on a house’s circuits. So many devices pulling on power at once can cause serious problems. Assurance Electrical Services wants to discuss keeping your household electronics safe from internal power surges in your Prescott home.

  • Keep small appliances like toasters, lamps, and gaming systems unplugged when not in use. Too many items on one circuit (the wiring in your home) can pull too much energy and cause internal surges.
  • Update old wiring to accompany the modern electricity demands of TVs, phone chargers, and computers. If your house has strange quirks like a light dimming when a hair dryer turns on, you should definitely upgrade your house wiring before it becomes a fire hazard.
  • Fix circuits that may be overloaded with too many large appliances at once, like a refrigerator and microwave in the kitchen. You can ask an electrician to install new circuits dedicated to specific appliances to relieve other circuits.

The power to prevent a power surge is in your hands. Other common causes of surges, such as lightning, are actually some of the least likely events to occur. Be proactive about surges by unplugging and upgrading your Prescott home’s circuits today. If you would like to know more about keeping your house electronics safe, give Assurance Electrical Services a call today at 928-713-2177 or visit us at http://www.myprescottelectrician.com.

Assurance Electrical Services discusses what size electrical panel your Prescott home needs

Assurance Electrical Services can calculate the right size electrical panel and install in your Prescott home.
Every home is a little different, so how do you know what size electrical panel you need? Assurance Electrical Services points out what to look for when determining the electrical panel needs for your Prescott home.

Electrical panels for homes come in different sizes that include 100, 150, 200 and 400 amps. Every home is required by the National Electric Code to have a panel that is at least 100 amps. You can usually find that information inside of the breaker panel box. While a 100-amp panel is the minimum required, your home may actually need a larger panel.

All-Electric homes
If you have no gas service to your home, and all your appliances are electric, meaning your water heater, clothes dryer, stove, and heating system, you will need more than the required 100-amp panel. For an all-electric home, 150 to 200 amps minimum is recommended. Based on the size of your home, this size panel may not be sufficient.

Large homes
Is your home over 3,000 square feet? The size of your home impacts the electrical load your home pulls. A small area vs. a 5,000 square-foot home in terms of running heating or air conditioning units will definitely impact your electrical needs. If you plan to add on to your existing home, consider upgrading your electrical panel based on future electrical needs.

Breaker box switches
Are all the breaker panel slots in your breaker box filled? This could be another sign that you need a higher amp electrical panel. With home theater systems, the addition of spas, and outlets for electric cars or RVs, the need for larger electrical panels is obvious.

The safety of your home depends upon having adequate electrical panels that provide the electricity that you need. Assurance Electrical Services has licensed electricians with the experience and know-how to perform an inspection to calculate your home’s electrical load, and install the proper panels to keep your family safe. Assurance Electrical Services discusses installing smoke alarms in your Prescott home

Assurance Electrical Services suggests hardwiring the smoke alarms in your Prescott home.Smoke alarms are one of those household items that we easily forget about. Changing the battery, replacing a broken or malfunctioning unit, or installing a detector are the little things we put off. Unfortunately, a smoke detector is one of the most critical safety features of our home. Fires spread very quickly, and the ability to save your family and yourself is determined by seconds. Because of this, a properly maintained smoke alarm is vital to the safety of your household. Assurance Electrical Services is letting Prescott homeowners know the right way to install smoke alarms in their home.

Install on Every Floor
Install an alarm on each floor of your home. This includes the basement. In newer homes, it is a requirement for detectors to be placed in each bedroom. The smoke sensors must also be interconnected, so if one is triggered, they all sound. This is also important if you sleep with your bedroom doors closed because you will be able to hear an alarm regardless of where it was triggered in the house.

Install On and Near the Ceiling
Smoke rises, so the smoke alarms should be placed high up. If your alarm is on the wall, it should be within four to twelve inches from the ceiling. A ceiling alarm should be a minimum of four inches away from the wall. If you have a pitched ceiling, put it near the highest point. Additionally, install the detectors away from windows, ducts, and doors. Drafts from these locations could keep the detectors from working correctly.

Consider Alternative to Battery Power
Many smoke alarms on the market today are battery powered. This means that you will have to remember to change your battery regularly. The alternative to using battery-powered smoke alarms is hard-wiring them into your home. These detectors work off the electricity in your home which means you never have to remember to change the battery. They are interconnected, and in the event of a power outage, they should have a battery backup.

Smoke alarms are necessary to keep you and your family safe. If you have battery-operated smoke alarms and you would like to explore a hard-wired option for your Prescott home, contact Assurance Electrical Services today at 928-713-2177. Assurance Electrical Services can install recessed lighting in your Prescott home

Assurance Electrical Services can create ambience in your Prescott home with recessed lighting.
Selecting the type of lighting to use for your home can be a tough decision. The choice between recessed lighting and ceiling lights plays a significant role in how a room looks and feels. You want to make certain your space has just the right ambience. Before making your decision, it is necessary to know the difference between the two types. Assurance Electrical Services understands the importance lighting plays in your home and we want to educate Prescott homeowners on the distinction between these two lighting options.

Ceiling Lights
When it comes to general ceiling lights, there are many styles, shapes, and colors of lighting fixtures. Each type will add a unique decorative touch to your living space. In smaller rooms, you may only need one fixture to give sufficient lighting. Larger rooms that require more than a few lights may be better suited with recessed lighting. This is because using too many fixtures in a large room makes a room feel cluttered.

Recessed Lights
Recessed lighting offers a minimalistic approach. This minimalism helps reduce clutter. It is also ideal in rooms with low ceilings, because hanging fixtures have the ability to make a room seem smaller. Recessed lighting with a low voltage switch offers more control versus regular ceiling lights. The added control can make it significantly easier to light your space.

Making design choices for your Prescott home is both exciting and difficult. Ceiling lights may offer more decorative options, but recessed lighting can keep your space from looking crowded. If recessed lighting is the right choice for you, Assurance Electrical Services provides professional and timely installation, and we proudly serve homeowners and businesses throughout Prescott. Call us today at 928-713-2177 for your free quote. For more information on installation and electrical wiring services, visit us online at http://www.myprescottelectrician.com.

Assurance Electrical Services discusses adding a spa to your Prescott home

Assurance Electrical Services can make sure your hot tub is properly wired at your Prescott home.A spa is a great addition to any Prescott home. Spending time in your spa is a great way to relax and unwind from a busy week. It is also a great way to spend time with friends. But before you can start relaxing, you need to get your spa properly wired first. Assurance Electrical Services has years of experience wiring spas and hot tubs and wants to make sure your new spa is installed safely.

220V-240V
The majority of hot tubs require 220V-240V 50-60 AMP GFCI protected circuits. There are exceptions such as a dual temperature swim spas which require up to 100 AMPs. Dealing with these high voltages and AMPs is extremely dangerous, and it is vital that you have the electrical wiring and installation completed by a licensed professional who will ensure it meets National Electric Code (NEC) and any mandatory local and state laws. Be sure to check your owner’s manual for specific electrical requirements before any work begins.

110V-120V
If your new spa only requires 110V-120V, installing is significantly easier. These types of spas will usually have a GFCI built into the end of the cord. This means you can plug directly into a regular outlet. However, it is essential that the outlet you are plugging into is a dedicated circuit. If the outlet does not have its own line, the breaker may be frequently tripped if another appliance is used on the same circuit. This is not only annoying, but it can also become a serious safety issue. Have your outlet checked by a licensed professional to ensure the proper connections are made before installing your spa.

Although a spa’s primary purpose is relaxation, safety should always come first to avoid any mishaps or catastrophes. Assurance Electrical Services understands what it takes to get the job done right. Our licensed and skilled electricians will make sure your spa is safely installed at your Prescott home. Assurance Electrical Services talks about electrical panels for your Prescott home

Assurance Electrical Services can upgrade the electrical panel to make your Prescott home safe and efficient.
If your Prescott home is more than 35 years old, Assurance Electrical Services recommends replacing the electrical panel (fuse box). There are a number of reasons to replace an old electrical panel box but the number one reason is safety. Second to that is keeping up with the ever-escalating demand on homes from technology and 'smart' appliances.

Should you replace your home's electrical panel box? Consider the following:

  • Does your house have flickering lights?
  • Does your house have melted electrical wires?
  • Do your appliances run at less than full power?
  • To use one appliance do you need to turn off another?
  • Do you need extension cords because of a lack of outlets?
  • Do you use surge protectors to protect your home's appliances?
  • Is your home lacking ground fault circuit interrupters (GFCIs) in necessary areas?
  • Does your house have breakers that are constantly tripping or frequently blowing fuses?

If you look at the panel box itself and your home's outlets, do they show these signs of needing repair or replacement?

  • Two pronged (non-grounded) outlets
  • Overheated electrical service conductors
  • Crackling sounds coming from your panel box
  • Rust or corrosion on or near the breakers and panel

Other reasons why you should consider a new electrical panel:

  • Are you considering adding another room or story to your home?
  • Are you considering renovating your home, particularly your kitchen?
  • Are you considering adding a major demand to your current panel like a new HVAC system, stove or spa, etc.?
Why not call Assurance Electrical Services today for a free panel inspection? Don't let an outdated, perhaps deteriorating panel pose a threat to your Prescott home and your family's safety. Today electrical panels are very well-designed and safe. Call Assurance Electrical Services for your free quote. Call 928-713-2177 or visit us online at http://www.myprescottelectrician.com.
