Should you replace your home's electrical panel box? Consider the following:
- Does your house have flickering lights?
- Does your house have melted electrical wires?
- Do your appliances run at less than full power?
- To use one appliance do you need to turn off another?
- Do you need extension cords because of a lack of outlets?
- Do you use surge protectors to protect your home's appliances?
- Is your home lacking ground fault circuit interrupters (GFCIs) in necessary areas?
- Does your house have breakers that are constantly tripping or frequently blowing fuses?
If you look at the panel box itself and your home's outlets, do they show these signs of needing repair or replacement?
- Two pronged (non-grounded) outlets
- Overheated electrical service conductors
- Crackling sounds coming from your panel box
- Rust or corrosion on or near the breakers and panel
Other reasons why you should consider a new electrical panel:
- Are you considering adding another room or story to your home?
- Are you considering renovating your home, particularly your kitchen?
- Are you considering adding a major demand to your current panel like a new HVAC system, stove or spa, etc.?
